
The foundation also agreed to become the umbrella organization for the startup group Love Our Libraries, which seeks to raise some $130,000 so that school libraries districtwide can restore their hours. Organizers are hoping to accomplish their goal by November 1.
The foundation underwrote the high school library first since it serves the most students. “If you can’t do everything at once, you’ve got to start somewhere,” board member Michael Coats said in the September 27 Sonoma Index-Tribune.
“It’s been really devastating,” high-school senior Cali Zimmerman, who is also a foundation board member, told the newspaper. “It’s the enrichment of our education [that is] not available to us—and it’s a necessity.”
