HB 2458 would have required each public library to have “a technology protection measure to prevent the display on a public computer of any visual depictions that are obscene, child pornography, or harmful to minors.” The proposed bill also allowed a library to disable the filter for “an adult engaged in legitimate research or some other lawful purpose.”
“Our success is due to the many calls and e-mail messages from the library community, the other coalition members, and the many citizens who shared our concerns,” ILA Executive Director Robert P. Doyle said in a press release, adding that “since the bill is never dead until the session is over, ILA will remain vigilant about any further developments on this issue.”
