Montreal Man Sentenced in School FirebombingA 19-year-old man was sentenced to two years in prison January 18 after he pleaded guilty to arson in the April 2004 firebombing of a Jewish elementary school library in Montreal. Quebec court Judge Jean Sirois gave Sleiman Elmerhebi credit for the eight months he had already served in detention, but said that the severity of the crime and the fact that it targeted a religious group and an elementary school merited a severe sentence. The United Talmud Torahs School reopened with a new library December 7. Elmerhebi’s mother Rouba is scheduled to return to court in March for trial as an accessory after the fact. Posted January 21, 2005. |
