Suspect Arrested in Bellwood Library Shootings

A 23-year-old man with a history of drug and weapons convictions was arrested February 4 in connection with the shooting of two women in the parking lot of the Bellwood (Ill.) Public Library. Wydrick Phillips was charged February 7 in Cook County Court with attempted murder, armed robbery, aggravated battery, vehicular invasion, aggravated discharge of a weapon, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, the Chicago Tribune reported February 9.

The two women were coming to the library February 2 after cashing a check at a nearby currency exchange when Phillips allegedly attacked and shot them and stole their purses. Ruby Graham was treated for a graze wound, and her mother Elizabeth was in stable condition in the hospital February 8. Phillips is being held in lieu of a $1-million bond.
