“This is the premier federal grant program for the nation’s libraries,” said IMLS Director Robert S. Martin. “It plays an important role in building the capacity of libraries to help communities address their changing educational, economic, and social needs.”
State library agencies use the grants to expand resources and programs for underserved groups, such as literacy initiatives, bilingual storytimes, and collection development, as well as books-by-mail and bookmobile services for homebound seniors. In addition, the grants fund educational initiatives, allowing public, university, and special libraries to form partnerships with schools and school libraries.
