Oregon Library Worker Foils Would-Be Thieves

Two teens who tried November 25 to rob the Bay City branch of the Tillamook County (Oreg.) Libraries were physically intimidated by staff member Rita Disbrow and fled the scene without taking anything.

Sheriff’s Detective Jana McCandless told the November 29 Tillamook Headlight-Herald that one of the youths, clad all in black and wearing a ski mask, had stepped behind the circulation desk, pushed Disbrow out of the way, and demanded the contents of the cash drawer. Disbrow told authorities she reacted by grabbing the boy by his jacket and saying, “What are you doing? Get out of here.” Both he and his companion immediately fled.

After charging the boys, aged 14 and 15, authorities released them to their parents’ custody.
