White House Nominates Three to NCLIS
The U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science announced three presidential nominees August 11 to serve as members of NCLIS for terms expiring July 19, 2009:
- Sandra Frances Ashworth, director of the Boundary
County (Idaho) District Library since 1996 and an NCLIS member since 2004, to
a second term. In 2003 she received Idaho’s Brightest Stars Award from the
governor, and in 2002 her library’s outreach and partnerships earned a
National Award for Library Service from the Institute of Museum and Library
Services.
- Jan Cellucci, who recently returned to Massachusetts
after serving since 2001 as advocate for the Canadian Association of Research
Libraries at the American Embassy in Ottawa, Ontario. A member of the
University of British Columbia President’s Advisory Council on the University
Library, she has also held positions as associate university librarian for
collection services and preservation manager at Boston College and library
director of the Bancroft School in Worcester, Massachussetts.
- Diane Rivers, president and CEO of Quality Educational Systems in Birmingham, Alabama. She has worked as an elementary, secondary, and university teacher; as an education psychometrist and psychologist; and for more than 16 years in a variety of administrative roles. In 2003, QES received the Alabama Quality Award.
All three nominations require confirmation by the Senate. Ashworth is a reappointment, while Cellucci and Rivers would replace members Jack Hightower and Joan Challinor, whose terms expire this year.
