Former Ocmulgee Director Pleads Not Guilty

The former director of the Ocmulgee Regional Library, headquartered in Eastman, Georgia, pleaded not guilty in federal court April 14 to charges of stealing more than $20,000 in grant money from the six-county library system, the April 15 Macon Telegraph reported.

David C. Wilson, who retired in May 2004, faces five counts of theft and one count of witness tampering following an FBI and Georgia Bureau of Investigation that was launched nearly one year ago. The five counts include alleged thefts of money from the Dodge, Telfair, and Wheeler County library branches and the alleged theft of a $6,000 lawnmower, which was purchased with library funds. The sixth count states that Wilson allegedly attempted to intimidate a federal witness on May 9, 2004, in Dodge County.

Wilson’s attorney Jim Wiggins said after the hearing, “He’s not guilty, and you can underline that twice and bold it. We expect Mr. Wilson will be acquitted of all charges.”
