Nevada Drivers Get a License to ReadLibrary lovers in Nevada can support summer reading programs and educational opportunities for librarians by purchasing a specialty license plate that sports “I [Heart] 2 Read” in red over a stack of books. The new plate was unveiled in conjunction with Nevada Library Legislative Day April 19 at a ceremony outside the Nevada Legislative Building in Carson City, the April 20 Reno Gazette-Journal reported.“We’re very excited about how this has evolved and what it means for our residents,” said State Librarian Sara Jones. “These plates will generate important revenues while serving as a consistent beacon for literacy.” The plates cost $61 at initial registration, of which $30 goes to support libraries, as does $20 of the $25 renewal fee. Jones presented Henderson (Nev.) District Public Libraries Executive Director Tom Fay with plate number 0008 in recognition for his efforts to design the prototype. Librarians and Friends of libraries across the state quickly gathered the necessary 1,000 signatures on a petition after the idea was proposed to the Nevada Library Association in December 2003.
