“We’re very excited about how this has evolved and what it means for our residents,” said State Librarian Sara Jones. “These plates will generate important revenues while serving as a consistent beacon for literacy.” The plates cost $61 at initial registration, of which $30 goes to support libraries, as does $20 of the $25 renewal fee.
Jones presented Henderson (Nev.) District Public Libraries Executive Director Tom Fay with plate number 0008 in recognition for his efforts to design the prototype. Librarians and Friends of libraries across the state quickly gathered the necessary 1,000 signatures on a petition after the idea was proposed to the Nevada Library Association in December 2003.
