In conjunction with the American Library Association’s transition to a major redesign of its Web site, American Libraries Online will be making some changes to its look and feel. Scheduled to debut April 7, the new ALA site will feature improved search capabilities and new navigation features to make information easier to locate.
All previous news coverage in AL Online will still be accessible, but news stories will appear as separate pages rather than in a weekly format as before. Weekly e-mail news digests will still be available to ALA members.
Similarly, American Libraries columns by Walt Crawford, Joseph Janes, David Dorman, and Elisa F. Topper will also be available, along with selected articles and conference coverage from the magazine.
Most Web addresses for the ALA site will change except for upper-level domain names. Bookmarks set for AL Online at www.ala.org/alonline/ will still work; however, visitors may wish to reset them to the new URL after the site changes.
During the first week of the Web transition, ALA customer service hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST. Staff will be prepared to help locate information and switch over bookmarks. A new FAQ also will be loaded onto the ALA home page with step-by-step information on how to get to some of the most frequently visited Web pages.
A new e-mail address has been created to receive online feedback at feedback@ala.org. For more information or assistance, call ALA Customer Service at 800-545-2433 and press 5.
