A former procurement manager accused of stealing nearly $300,000 from the Alaska State Library pleaded guilty in Juneau Superior Court to three counts of felony misconduct February 21. Gary L. Martin, who had entered a plea of innocent to 20 separate charges in December, faces up to 16 years in prison for illegally obtaining prescription drugs, fraud, and official misconduct, the February 21 Juneau Empire reported.
According to a plea agreement, the state dropped most of the felony indictments and agreed not to press any new charges stemming from the library embezzlement, which involved forgery, tampering with public records, and falsely billing the state for up to three years.
Superior Court Judge Larry Weeks will sentence Martin and establish restitution at a later hearing.
