10-Year-Old Charged with Abduction
and Murder of 3-Year-Old

A 10-year-old boy has been charged with luring a 3-year-old from a New Jersey library, beating and sexually assaulting him, and leaving him to die in a drainage ditch.

Police say the dead boy, Amir Beeks, was taken from the Woodbridge Public Library’s Henry Inman Branch the afternoon of March 26. He was discovered around 5 p.m. and taken to a hospital, where he died the following morning.

The March 28 Newark Star-Ledger reported that Beeks had been in the library with his 17-year-old sister, who was using a computer before the boy disappeared.

The older boy, who was not identified due to his age, was charged with murder, kidnapping, sexual assault, and weapons offenses. The suspect was known as a troubled and violent boy and had been investigated by the state’s Division of Youth and Family Services, the Star-Ledger reported. Although he cannot be charged as an adult, he could be sentenced to as much as 24 years in juvenile custody, authorities told the newspaper.
