Janice Gennevois, who has since taken a position as volunteer director for a performing arts center, charges that the city should have terminated Hansel as investigators recommended, the Phoenix Arizona Republic reported June 17. Instead, Hansel was given two weeks’ suspension without pay and put on probation for a year.
“The city failed to protect me,” Gennevois said. She claims the city offered to transfer her to a district library or allow her to leave the library system for a different city job, which her attorney said made no sense: “She shouldn’t have been put in the position that she had to leave,” David Gomez told the Republic.
“I believe the truth is on my side,” Hansel insists. The city has 60 days to respond to the claim, but Gomez said talks to settle the matter out of court might begin sooner.
