Laura Bush Celebrates National Library Week with Virtual Launch“Thank you, White House librarians, for the wonderful work that you do here at the library of the Executive Office of the President,” said First Lady Laura Bush at the April 8 launch of the EOP virtual library. Bush said the virtual library—with its database center, online catalog, subject indexes, and “Ask a Librarian” feature—will enhance the library experience for the many offices in the White House that rely on the research facility, which was established 125 years ago with a small reference collection and evolved into the modern EOP Library now housed in the Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The virtual library will also offer better Internet access, she said, with Web sites and articles organized by subject to save users search time. “Launching the EOP virtual library today is a perfect start to National Library Week,” the First Lady said. “This week is not only a celebration of our nation's libraries, but of the people who make them great—each of you. It is a time to recognize and thank librarians for the valuable work you do in schools, businesses, and communities across America.” |
