Tulsa Named Depository Library of the Year

United States Public Printer Bruce R. James has named the Tulsa (Okla.) City-County Library the first-ever Federal Depository Library of the Year. James presented the award certificate October 21 to Library CEO Linda Saferite at the 2003 Federal Library Depository Conference in Arlington, Virginia.

“On behalf of GPO’s Superintendent of Documents Judith Russell and the rest of her team, I congratulate the Tulsa City-County Library for embracing new technology in its ongoing efforts to make public access to government information better accessible,” said James. “The library staff’s commitment to utilizing the Internet and using outside-of-the-box techniques to better serve the needs of the public is commendable.”

James cited Tulsa’s innovative document access options, its retrospective cataloging that has increased circulation, and its acting as a liaison for local community officials.

The award was established by the Government Printing Office in March to “raise public awareness of the network of depository libraries” and identify best practices among them.
