British Bookmobiles Double As Crime Prevention Shops

Residents of the Lichfield district, near Birmingham, England, can now purchase personal attack alarms, door chains, property marking kits, and other security devices from the county bookmobile when it visits their villages.

The new service began October 1 as part of a new crime-busting initiative launched by the Staffordshire county council and Lichfield police, according to the September 27 Wolverhampton Express and Star.

“As well as providing an accessible library service to people living in rural and excluded areas, our mobile libraries are ideal vehicles for taking all kinds of services and information to the heart of the community,” said Olwen Johnson, from the Staffordshire Mobile Library Service. “This is another example of Staffordshire Libraries’ commitment to working in partnership with other organizations for the benefit of residents of the whole county.”
