GLSO News, the monthly newsletter of the city’s Gay and Lesbian Services Organization, was removed by mistake, said library Executive Director Kathleen Imhoff. She said she had decided The Letter, a Louisville-based gay-issues newspaper, didn’t belong on the free-distribution table because it wasn’t local, and that somehow GLSO News was also removed, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported November 15. Imhoff had stated earlier that library policy prohibited religious or political posters or free materials that advocate a single perspective. The Letter would now be available in the reference room rather than the lobby, the Herald-Leader added.
GLSO News Editor Mary Crone praised the decision to reinstate the publication. “I’m very glad because there are a lot of people in the community who do not know where to turn that are questioning their sexual orientation or their gender identity, or they have a child that is questioning,” she told the Herald-Leader.
