Mold Closes College Library in KansasBethany College’s Wallerstedt Library in Lindsborg, Kansas, was closed in late August due to a mold that is covering books with a greenish or gray film. Librarians and administrative staff have vacated the building, and all operations there have ceased until the type of mold has been identified. Director of College Relations Bud Rothgeb said in the August 28 Kansas City Star that test results will determine when the building can be reopened. Faculty can access the collection by checking out a key to the building, but officials are warning them about potential health risks. Rothgeb said that the mold has apparently been growing in the building for approximately one year, and all attempts to stop it have met with failure. The number of items affected is yet to be determined. Posted September 2, 2002. |
