High School Library Assistant Charged
with Sex with Students
A female library assistant at Glenbard East High School in Lombard, Illinois, has been charged with having sex inside the school with three male students.
Laurie Augustine, 41, was arrested October 16 at a mall where she had expected to meet one of the students, the Chicago Tribune reported October 18. Police, who had worked with the student when he arranged the meeting, arrested her when she arrived at the mall.
Augustine, who is married and has six children, began work at the school in 1999. If convicted of the sexual assault charges, she faces up to 15 years in prison.
Augustine had met with the three students, two of whom are age 16 and one 17, in her office during the previous school year to discuss personal, school, and work-related matters. “But the relationship with all three turned sexual starting in September,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph Birkett told the Tribune.
“We’re just devastated by this whole thing,” said Principal Maria Ward in the October 18 Chicago Sun-Times, adding that Augustine had “fairly limited contact with students” in her position.
