Top 10 British Librarians Named
The British newspaper The Independent published March 3 a list of the 10 leading librarians in the United Kingdom, based on votes tallied by their colleagues and gathered by the Library Association. The librarians are:
- Chris Batt, acting chief executive of Resource: the Council for Museums, Archives, and Libraries.
- Lynne Brindley, chief executive of the British Library and visiting professor at Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan universities.
- Patrick Conway, director of arts, libraries, and museums for County Durham.
- Sheila Corrall, director of academic support services at the University of Southampton and president of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP).
- Allan Foster, director of information services at Keele University.
- Melanie Goody, director of knowledge management operations at the consulting firm KPMG.
- Peter Griffiths, communication director for the government’s Home Office.
- Margaret Haines, portfolio director for knowledge management in the Department of Health.
- Charles Oppenheim, professor of information science at Loughborough University.
- Gwenda Sippings, head of information at the law firm of Clifford Chance LLP.
