University of Washington
Introduces Online MLIS

The University of Washington Information School has announced it will offer master’s degrees in library and information science to distance learners beginning this fall. As the only ALA-accredited institution in the Northwest, UW will be the first in the nine-state region to offer an online library degree.

“After years of slowly building up our staff and programs, we are ready to help the voices in the region that have been crying out for library and information science education,” said Dean Mike Eisenberg.

The program will also incorporate short on-campus sessions to allow students to meet instructors and other students, maintaining some of the benefits of an on-site degree. The 63-credit degree will take approximately three years to complete.

The program’s costs will be covered by student fees and other non-state funding.
