Men Arrested for Having Sex
in Canadian Library
Six men have been arrested in the last six months for having sex in rest rooms of the London (Ont.) Public Library, the London Free Press reported January 11.
One witness said he had notified library officials when he noticed about six middle-aged men who kept going into rest rooms, leaving without using the facilities, and then returning. “It was right across from the children’s section,” he said. “It’s totally inappropriate.”
Although children often use the rest rooms, which are located in a corridor connecting the children’s library and the central library, officials said there had been no complaints about children being involved.
When staff received reports of suspicious activity late last year, they contacted police and stepped up patrols of the area. “We thought we had it under control,” said library Chief Executive Darrel Skidmore. After two suspects were recently caught during a routine check, the library issued a statement to January 10. “We’re not trying to sensationalize it, but we don’t want to minimize it,” Skidmore said. “We’re asking the public to be alert, too.”
