British Library Staffers Suspended
for Alleged Porn Viewing

The British Library has suspended nine staff members for allegedly using work computers to access pornography on the Internet.

Human Resources Director Andy Cook said the behavior was discovered during a routine investigation into Internet use, and the charges, if proven, would break job contract terms, the Guardian reported December 10. Cook stressed that the suspended employees were not accused of any criminal activity and are “are considered innocent pending the outcome of our internal disciplinary procedures.”

At least three of the accused staff have turned to their union to fight the charges, according to the December 11 London Times. Disciplinary hearings are expected in the next few weeks.

The suspended staff work at the main library building in St. Pancras, the newspaper library in north London, and at Boston Spa in West Yorkshire.
