George McDonald Appointed
to Head E-rate Program

George McDonald has been appointed vice president of the Universal Service Administrative Company in Washington, D.C., with overall responsibility for the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD), which administers the e-rate program. McDonald, who has been serving as acting head of the division since June, has also been director of operations since the creation of the Schools and Libraries Corporation (the SLD’s predecessor) in 1997.

Prior to joining the USAC, McDonald was deputy director of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of Budget and Program Performance.

“Our national search provided us with a number of qualified candidates,” said USAC Chief Executive Officer Cheryl Parrino. “But, in the end, the best was in our own backyard. [McDonald] is very well respected by key stakeholders and brings a wealth of experience as well as a proven track record of success with the program.”

McDonald will replace Kate Moore, who resigned in June to enter the teaching profession.
