Two More Lone Star Schools
Vie for Bush Library

Texas A&M University and Texas Tech have added their names to the list of universities vying for the future George W. Bush presidential library.

An A&M system board of regents resolution honoring the president-elect also stated that the board will approach Bush about locating his library in College Station, according to the January 17 Bryan-College Station Eagle. “Now that he’s been elected, we’d like to get in the queue, so to speak,” said A&M President Ray Bowen.

Exactly who will broach the offer to the new president is undecided, Bowen said. He added that they hope to build on A&M’s close relationship with the Bush family. The university is already home to the presidential library of former President George Bush.

According to the January 19 Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Tech’s Student Senate approved a resolution January 18 to pursue the library. “The presidential library is a pretty huge honor for a university to receive,” said Heath Cheek, who introduced the resolution. “Needless to say, an opportunity like this doesn’t come along very often.”

Texas is the only state that is home to more than one of the 10 existing presidential libraries. The Lyndon Baines Johnson center is at the University of Texas in Austin.
