Sally Reed to Head FOLUSA

Sally G. Reed, director of the Norfolk (Va.) Public Library since 1995, will become executive director of Friends of Libraries U.S.A. effective January 14, 2002. She succeeds Sandy Dolnick, who founded the organization in 1979 as a committee of the American Library Association’s Library Administration Division (now the Library Administration and Management Association). Later FOLUSA became an independent organization with headquarters in Philadelphia.

“Sandy has done an outstanding job in building a solid foundation for FOLUSA,” Reed said. “Thanks to her it is a nationally recognized and respected organization. I look forward to building on this foundation to provide support for Friends groups across the country as they work to improve their own libraries.” FOLUSA supports more than 2,000 Friends of Libraries groups across the country.

Reed recently completed a term on the ALA Executive Board. She currently is chair of the Association’s “@ Your Library” Advisory Task Force and serves on the Library Advocacy Now Steering Subcommittee.
