Ohio Library to Keep Talk on Shelves

Talk magazine will remain in the adult section of the Willowick (Ohio) Public Library despite a protest by a circulation-desk clerk who quit her job over the library’s refusal to remove the monthly publication.

“The reviews were mostly positive and patrons were asking for it,” library director Holly Carroll told the April 3 Cleveland Plain Dealer. She said that after weighing the pros and cons of keeping the magazine subscription, a library committee decided to keep it on the shelves. “We looked at the current issue and read the articles,” Carroll said. “Some of them were pretty good.”

Julie Sbrocco was offended by a cover photo of actress Heather Graham in a low-cut dress and two other illustrations of nude women. “I’m very disappointed that they decided to keep the magazine,” Sbrocco told the Plain Dealer. “They say it doesn’t violate guidelines, but they’re not taking into consideration that young people go into the library.”
