Haycock, Sannwald Seek ALA Presidency

The ALA Nominating Committee announced its nominees for ALA offices October 18. Seeking the 2002–2003 ALA presidency are Ken Haycock, professor and director at the School of Library, Archival, and Information Studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver; and William W. Sannwald, assistant to the city manager, library design and development manager for the city of San Diego, California. He is the former city librarian of San Diego. The committee also selected 54 candidates for ALA Council who will be named in the November issue of American Libraries.

Ballot mailing for the election will begin March 5 to all ALA members current as of January 31. Candidates’ statements will appear in the March issue of AL. The results of the president’s race and the race for seats on ALA Council will be posted May 3 on the ALA Web site as well as in the June/July issue of AL.

Betty J. Turock of Rutgers University chaired the nine-member Nominating Committee.
