A 19-year-old Michigan man pled guilty November 13 to raping a 10-year-old girl in the women’s restroom of Hackley Public Library in Muskegon. Though he did not provide specific details of the incident, Elvis Tarrease Day admitted that on November 2, 1999, he hid in the restroom, encountered the girl, and raped her. Day confessed as part of a plea bargain in which he accepted a prison sentence of at least 20 years, according to the November 14 Muskegon Chronicle.
Day is already serving an 8–15-year sentence for robbing a local convenience store; the terms will be served concurrently. Court records show he has a lengthy history of assault and property crimes.
Day’s offense was followed on April 7 by another sexual assault at the Hackley Library, when Donald DuBoise attacked a staff member. DuBoise was sentenced to 8–15 years in prison.
