Maurice J. (Mitch) Freedman, director of the Westchester Library System in Ardsley, New York, has announced that he will be a petition candidate for the ALA 2002–2003 presidency, joining nominees Ken Haycock and William W. Sannwald.

Freedman has until January 31, 2001, to file his petitions with ALA Executive Director William Gordon. Eight of Freedman’s colleagues are gathering signatures on his behalf; he needs at least 25 signatures to be placed on the slate.
