David Burt Closes Filtering Facts—AgainFor the second time in six months, librarian David Burt is retiring as president of Filtering Facts. Burt told American Libraries that he has left the staff of the Lake Oswego (Oreg.) Public Library “to pursue a career in the Internet/high-tech business” at Seattle-based N2H2, maker of Bess blocking software. His product-development job title is software tester/network administrator in N2H2’s competitive intelligence department. “I know that many of you will be continuing this fight to the end, and I know that we will win,” Burt announced April 20, citing pro-filtering activists who have taken on Medina County (Ohio) District Library and Santa Clara County (Calif.) Library, as well as Dr. Laura Show staffer Cornelia Koehl and contacts at traditional-values organizations. Publib discussion list cofounder Jean Armour Polly will maintain the Filtering Facts Web site and Kathy Valente of Citizens for Community Values is transferring e-recipients of the now-defunct Filtering Facts Weekly Newsletter to her antipornography CCV Bulletin. Others can subscribe by e-mailing kathyvalente@safeplace.net. Posted May 1, 2000. |
