Baker & Taylor Forming New E-company

Book wholesaler Baker & Taylor has formed a new company that will take over all its e-business. CEO Craig Richards characterized the as-yet-unnamed enterprise as a “business-to-business dot.com entity” that will assume ownership of—among other things—the firm’s Replica Books, a print-on-demand publisher; and the B&T Electronic Business and Information Services unit, which licenses database applications.

The new company’s Web site, www.TheLibraryPlace.com, will, when completed, “provide a level of free services and information—including industry news, career postings, and new-product information—along with premium levels of paid services,” Richards said. It will also have links to vendors of such items as furniture, computers, and office and processing supplies.
