Dialog Sells Its Information Services DivisionDialog, an electronic information-service provider to libraries and other organizations, has sold its Information Services Division (ISD) to the Thomson Corporation for $275 million. Under a restructuring agreement, the remaining divisions will become part of a new Dialog-Thomson venture called Bright Station, which will focus on Web and e-commerce products. Dialog, which has corporate offices in London and in Cary, North Carolina, has been underperforming since its acquisition of Knight-Ridder Information in 1997. Thomson, a multinational newspaper and e-commerce firm, was quoted in a March 23 Dialog press release as saying it will retain the ISD’s current structure, product lines, prices, and staff, and that the transition will be “virtually seamless” for customers.
