Police have charged the man they believe responsible for at least five of seven break-ins at the Hobart Branch of the Lake County (Ind.) Public Library since February 14. Robert Johnson, 22, was arrested in the early morning of February 29 as he climbed through an open vent in the building’s roof, according to the March 1 Munster Times. Two Hobart police officers were waiting in the darkened library as part of a police surveillance effort to nab the thief.
Johnson confessed to breaking into the library five times, leaving two unsolved burglaries. He allegedly took cash from the library office and broke into the copying machine on one occasion, for a total of over $325.
