Suspect Charged in
OSU Library Syringe Attack
Early tests indicate that a syringe used to stab the foot of a woman in Ohio State University’s main library likely held nothing more than water. The victim in the bizarre attack July 16 was seated at a table in a second-floor study area when she felt liquid on her foot, followed by a sharp pain. She then saw a man crawl out from under the table and quickly walk away, the Columbus Dispatch reported July 20.
Dwight D. Pannell was arrested after a brief chase and pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and possessing criminal tools.
Authorities said they did not know the motive for the attack. “It may just be someone with a fetish,” said City Prosecutor Stephen McIntosh. University officials labeled the incident a fluke and said they had no plans to increase security in the library.
