Consultant Critical of
Fargo Library Director
A conflict-resolution consultant hired to identify workplace problems at the Fargo (N. Dak.) Public Library has concluded that Director Dave Davis needs to improve poor management and communication skills and be held accountable for his performance, according to the July 19 Fargo Forum. In an eight-page report presented to the library board July 18, Brenda Kaspari stated that employees had consistently told her that Davis lacks leadership skills and the ability to resolve conflicts and solve problems.
“There is strong sentiment that the situation has gone unaddressed for too long and it can not be remedied,” Kaspari wrote. “The trust has been broken. There is a sense that if the director remains there must be very clear measurements for success.”
Since May, the board has limited Davis’s contact with the staff and his decision-making responsibility. Board chair Virginia Dembach told the Forum that a meeting to evaluate his performance has been set for August 15.
