Renée Olson, editor-in-chief of School Library Journal, has announced her resignation, effective August 18, to become editor of Rutgers Magazine.
“Running a university publication is something I’ve wanted to do for some time,” Olson explained in an e-mail to American Libraries, adding that she “guaranteed there will be library coverage in my new magazine.”
Olson took the top post at Cahners’ monthly magazine for children’s, young adult, and school librarians in September 1998 after having served as news and features editor since joining the staff in 1994. Previously serving as editorial intern at American Libraries before coming to SLJ, the University of Illinois/Urbana-Champaign library school graduate was head of reference at the Reading (Mass.) Public Library from 1990 to 1994.
