Mitch Freedman to Become
Publisher of Unabashed Librarian

Polly Scilken, widow of The Unabashed Librarian founder Marvin Scilken, announced January 1 that the publication will continue under the direction of Maurice J. (Mitch) Freedman.

Freedman will become publisher and editor-in-chief of the quarterly newsletter (subtitled “The ‘How I Run My Library Good’ Letter”) beginning with issue #114. Jenna Freedman will be editor; Sanford Berman, Bernadine Hoduski, and Carole Leita will be regular contributors and serve on a newly created board of contributing editors.

“I am so happy that Mitch will take over responsibility for the magazine,” said Scilken. “I am confident that Mitch, a friend of Marvin’s for 20 years, will continue the library service philosophy that Marvin advocated his entire career.”

Marvin Scilken, who created the publication 28 years ago, died of a heart attack last February during ALA’s 1999 Midwinter Meeting.
