The man who planted two bombs at libraries in downtown Concord, New Hampshire a year ago has apparently threatened the state’s New Year’s Eve festivities.
Police intercepted a letter addressed to the governor’s office on December 29 threatening to bomb a First Night celebration somewhere in the state. The Associated Press reported that authorities said the ornate handwriting on the envelope looked identical to handwriting on letters from the Concord bomber.
State Police Col. Gary Sloper said authorities were leaving it to local communities to decide whether to cancel their events. Heidi Edwards Dunn, executive director of the Concord celebration, said December 30 that the event would go forward as planned, with extra security provided by police.
In the Concord incident a pipe bomb set off a small fire at the Concord Public Library October 27, and state police discovered a second bomb hours later at the nearby State Library. No arrests were ever made in the case.
