Wisconsin Library Director Sentenced

Former Edgerton (Wis.) Public Library Director Marylou Pierce Smith, who pleaded guilty in October to the theft of 417 library books and numerous audiovisual materials over a 10-month period, received lenient treatment December 4 by Rock County Judge Michael Byron.

Instead of a fine or prison sentence, Smith was ordered to serve five years of probation, return all library materials in 30 days, pay restitution, and seek treatment and counseling, according to the December 5 Janesville Gazette.
