Embattled Fargo PL Director Offers to Quit

Fargo (N. Dak.) Public Library Director Dave Davis has offered to resign in return for a severance package that includes two years’ salary totaling $124,488, health and retirement benefits for two years, $10,000 in attorneys’ fees, and $6,000 in relocation expenses. The offer came nearly a month after a consultant’s report that criticized Davis’s leadership skills and ability to resolve conflicts. Since May, the board has limited Davis’s contact with the staff and his decision-making responsibility following the city’s reprimand for making an offensive remark to a pregnant employee.

Library Board President Virginia Dambach said that the city has not accepted the terms but that negotiations are continuing, the August 18 Fargo Forum reported. “I think it is in the best interests of the taxpayers . . . to make the settlement and move on,” she said.

Davis has also asked for an open letter from Mayor Bruce Furness acknowledging that his one performance evaluation was essentially positive and that there were no grounds to fire him.
