Ex-Bethel Park Librarian
Sentenced to Probation
Dorothy Corbett pleaded guilty March 27 to embezzling more than $51,000 from the Bethel Park (Pa.) Library, where she had served as director for 16 years. Corbett was ordered to serve three years of probation and to perform 200 hours of community service.
“I’ve never had a case where someone started paying restitution before the trial,” Assistant District Attorney Marc Clark said in the March 28 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, referring to the fact that Corbett had already reimbursed the library the entire amount last year. Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge also ordered Corbett, who has been doing volunteer work since she was fired last summer, to find a new job.
During the hearing Corbett expressed remorse for what she had done. “I’ve betrayed the trust of the library, the community, and the children,” she said. “There aren’t words to express it.” Her defense attorney, Carol Parise, told reporters that the thefts were an “aberration for someone who has been a model citizen all her life.”
