Drew Carey Will Donate Game-show
Winnings to Ohio Libraries
Comedian Drew Carey, star of the ABC series The Drew Carey Show, selected the public libraries of his home state to receive any money he wins on a special celebrity edition of the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, slated to air May 2–3, where the stars can donate their winnings to a favorite cause. Carey, a Cleveland native who has maintained strong ties to his Ohio roots, was working on a series of public service announcements for the Ohio Library Council when he was asked to be on the Millionaire show.
OLC Public Relations Director Lynda Murray said, “We are delighted that Drew recognizes the value of Ohio libraries. Drew’s commitment to Ohio libraries means a lot to us and we are excited that he will be playing on our behalf. You can bet that all of us in the library community will be tuned in and cheering him on.”
Spoiler alert: According to the April 26 Star Magazine tabloid, Carey allegedly won only half of the full $1 million on the pre-taped show, getting stumped by a sports question.
