Columbine High School May Reopen
Library for One-year Anniversary
Officials at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, are considering opening the sealed-off library April 20 to the survivors of the shootings there last April.
Some students and faculty trapped in the library during the shooting rampage of Eric Harris and Dylan Kiebold one year ago have asked the school to let them in to briefly meditate and seek closure, a spokesman for the Jefferson County Schools told the Denver Post April 14. “It’s a tough call. It’s being considered if it’s something that would benefit them,” he said.
Meanwhile, the HOPE (Healing of People Everywhere) fund continues to work toward its goal of raising $3 million to turn the library into an atrium and build a new library. The fund accepted a donation from a local strip-club owner of 600,000 shares of stock that may net around $200,000 when sold.
The Denver Post donated and matched its $5,000 winnings from the Pulitzer Prize it won April 10 for its coverage of the tragedy.
