Terri Walker, director of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library in Christiansburg, Virginia, submitted her resignation to the board of trustees October 7, making her the third director in six years to leave. Board chair David McCrumb told the Roanoke Times October 8, “She felt that she needed to work someplace else and we did not disagree with her.”
Walker was hired in 1997 to replace Karen Dillon, who resigned under pressure after the board objected to her management style. Dillon’s predecessor was Carol Veitch, who was fired for similar reasons in 1993.
Complaints about morale surfaced in August when Walker informed the board that 25 people had left the system during her tenure. She attributed the turnover to changes in technology and customer service. The board was expected to accept her resignation at its October 20 meeting.
