Sumler, Berry Seek ALA Presidency;
Young, Bishoff Are Treasurer Candidates

The American Library Association Nominating Committee announced their nominees for ALA president and treasurer November 12. Seeking the 2001–2002 ALA presidency are John W. Berry, executive director of NILRC: A Consortium of Community Colleges, Colleges, and Universities, headquartered in River Forest, Illinois; and Claudia B. Sumler, director of the Camden County Library, headquartered in Voorhees, New Jersey. Running for ALA treasurer 2000–2004 are Lizbeth Bishoff of the Bishoff Group in Evergreen, Colorado, and Peter R. Young, chief of the Cataloging Distribution Service at the Library of Congress in Washington. The committee also selected 51 candidates for ALA Council, which will appear in the December issue of American Libraries.

Ballot mailing for the election will begin March 3 to all ALA members current as of January 31. Candidates statements will appear in the March AL. The results of the president’s, treasurer’s, and Council races will appear in the June/July issue.

Deborah Miller of Shaumburg Township (Ill.) District Library chaired the nine-member Nominating Committee.
