Girl Raped in Muskegon Library

Muskegon, Michigan, police are looking for a man who raped a 10-year-old girl at the Hackley Public Library November 2. According to the November 3 Muskegon Chronicle, an unidentified man followed the girl to a restroom on the library’s lowest level, where she was later found crying. The family described the girl’s behavior the next day as “quiet.”

A news release by the American Family Association of Michigan issued the day after the attack claimed the library’s lack of Internet filtering software was a lure for pedophiles and porn addicts. AFAM President Gary Glenn, of Midland, said that “Given the brutally violent nature of child pornography available on the Internet, we are thankful the little girl is alive.”

However, Director Martha Ferriby told American Libraries that “the man was not seen on the third floor where the library computers are. He is not known to our staff. To tell the truth, we don’t know if he was from Muskegon or from Mars.” Library and school-system officials are conducting their own investigation in conjunction with the police.
