Ameritech Library Services
Sold to Investment Group

Ameritech Library Services officials revealed November 4 that the company has been sold to a private investment group led by 21st Century Group, LLC, and Green Leaf Ridge, LLC. The sale follows the October 8 acquisition of ALS’s parent firm, Chicago-based Ameritech, by SBC Communications in San Antonio.

ALS Director of Marketing Ron Passmore told American Libraries that the merger with SBC had nothing to do with the sale, but acknowledged that ALS management had proposed separation from Ameritech over a year ago with the pending takeover in mind. He said all 520 ALS employees worldwide were part of the acquisition but that no layoffs were planned and the “executive team is intact.”

SBC is expected to formally approve the sale November 19, pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission and the Securities Exchange Commission. ALS will be renamed by the end of the year, Passmore said.
