San Francisco City Librarian
Regina Minudri Suffers Stroke

San Francisco City Librarian Regina Minudri was in critical but stable condition after suffering a massive stroke May 18. Library Chief of Community Relations Marcia Schneider reported that Minudri was initially in a coma, but she awoke in Berkeley’s Alta Bates Hospital May 19 and was “responding and alert.”

Minudri, who retired as head of the Berkeley Public Library in 1994, became acting SFPL city librarian in August 1997 after Kenneth Dowlin was forced out by Mayor Willie Brown. In March 1998 she said she only expected to remain in the position for about 18 months more.

Deputy City Librarian Susan Hildreth is serving as acting city librarian. Colleagues and friends can send get-well wishes in care of Minudri’s assistant, Dory Ehrlich, San Francisco Public Library, 100 Larkin St., San Francisco, CA 94102. A recorded hotline for updates on Minudri’s condition is at 510-530-4055.
